3 Lessons That Helped Me Conquer Anxiety (How You Can Do It Too)

Do you feel like you’re out of breath? Like your heart’s about to burst out from your chest? That’s because you’re more tired than you think. You’re tired because you’re thinking too much and don’t know how to stop.

It’s been like that for some time now and it’s starting to show. You’re falling behind schedule more often than you’re used to. On top of that, most of your goals look like they’re slipping out of reach. Everyone else looks like they know what they’re doing. Everyone except for you.

Your friends, your peers, that one 22-year-old Instagram star, the doctors, lawyers and anyone with a flashy title, who can afford to pay off a house or two. Why can’t you catch up? Here are the three lessons I’ve learned that help me with anxiety:

Stop comparing yourself to others

You think you’re not as good as everyone else, but that isn’t true at all. Everyone else feels the same way. They’re just much better at hiding it. No one is perfect. Your ups and downs in life are different from everyone else’s. This makes you stronger in your own way. The only thing you have to do is to keep your head on your shoulders. You’re different from everyone else and that’s what’s valuable.

Slow down

Don’t think too much. It’s easy to end up in a dark place, so don’t be afraid to slow down. Save that energy for more important tasks and get those out of the way as soon as you can. You’ll have less to think about. Work on what you can with the time that you have left in the day. Don’t bite off more than you can chew if you can help it. It’s not a nice place to be in. Don’t be afraid to take breaks. You’ll need the energy for later.

Think outside of the box

Sometimes Plan A, B, C and D fail one after another. Don’t freak out. It happens to the best of us. You just need to find a more useful way to deal with it. Take a few steps back and look for the simple things that you can fix right now. Don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need to. Ask questions when you have to because you’ll think about it, anyways. Don’t make plans for things that you can’t control or make any promises that you can’t keep.
